"THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION"

From the November 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN human relationships it is indeed a delightful and joyous experience when, some estrangement and misunderstanding at an end, one enters once again into full and heartfelt agreement with another from whom he had seemed to be separated. "The middle wall of partition" is broken down, and there comes to the reunited ones a warm and loving sense of being at-one— in exact agreement once again.

But reconciliation must of necessity be of impermanent value if based on mere human emotion. Indeed, true reconciliation can be secured in one way only: as a result of a spiritual understanding of God and of man's relationship to God. This spiritual understanding, clearly and persistently held to, definitely obliterates from human consciousness every vestige of disagreement, estrangement, and misunderstanding.

Jesus the Christ was the great minister of reconciliation, showing as he did by undeniable demonstration the real nature of God and the real relationship existing between God and man. Paul writes to the Corinthians: "And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation." Although for centuries this mighty fact had been shrouded in mystery, it was again revealed to men generally when, in the year 1875, Mary Baker Eddy gave the world the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Christian Science brings "the ministry of reconciliation" to this present age, and for all time. This revelation, coming as it did to the pure and receptive consciousness of our Leader, and given by her to the world in the textbook, has already been the means of bringing to great numbers the wondrous and demonstrable fact, namely, that man is now, always has been, and must forever continue to be, wholly at-one with and inseparable from the infinite Father-Mother God. This secret of eternal life, the "pearl of great price" spoken of in one of Jesus' parables, has enabled Christian Scientists, the world over, to free themselves and others from sin and sickness, from discords of every name and nature which tend to make men feel estranged and separated from God—infinite Spirit, Love, Life, Truth.
