Testimonies of Healing

One of the blessings for which I...

From the November 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One of the blessings for which I can express sincere gratitude has been the privilege of reading the testimonies of healing appearing in the periodicals, for it was through this channel that divine Love guided me when all human aid failed; and the desire to read them and rejoice with those who are demonstrating the healing efficacy of Christian Science has grown through the years.

My first experience of the application of the truth as taught by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was truly a revelation to me, as I had not believed such a proof possible in this world. The time had come when it seemed the one whom I most dearly loved was at death's door. Eminent surgeons had said there was nothing more to do. In my extremity I was led to a consecrated Christian Science practitioner who so lovingly awakened my thought to the truth of Being that I glimpsed in some measure that man is not where I had been educated to believe him to be—that is, in matter and subject to material laws—but that he is the expression of divine Mind and reflects eternal Life. I was so exalted in becoming acquainted with or conscious of God's presence and power that for some time my feet did not seem to touch the earth. I recall at this time going back to the hospital, and although the loved one did not seem conscious of my presence in the room, having lapsed into coma for several days, I was led to say, "God is your Life." I shall never forget how powerful these words were, for overnight the patient awakened. The next day was Thanksgiving Day and he sat up in bed with an expression as beautiful and clear as that of a little child. The surgeons and attendants remarked to me: "You should thank God. He has wrought a miracle."

In the years following, I have never doubted God's omnipotence. There have been times when sense-testimony argued loudly, but I have had a firm conviction that all things are possible to God. I have been healed of neuritis and chronic stomach trouble extending over many years. It was not until the error was uncovered that I was entertaining bitter thoughts toward some who I believed had treated me unjustly that I proved the truth stated in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p.261), "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts." When these so-called human trials and experiences were seen as unreal, this chronic condition yielded. Christian Science has also proved the Comforter in sorrow.
