Testimonies of Healing

One Sunday afternoon I was...

From the November 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One Sunday afternoon I was seized with an attack of influenza so severe that I was unable to do any effective work to overcome it. By evening I felt very ill indeed, and the next morning I was manifesting severe symptoms. I managed to read a portion of the week's Lesson-sermon, although scarcely knowing what I was doing; but after that I was not able to see to read at all.

Someone who needed treatment was coming to see me in the late afternoon, but error suggested that I must put him off because I was not in a condition to help him. However, I resisted this suggestion, feeling assured that if I was desirous of helping a brother, God would certainly help me to do so. So my friend came and I conversed with him during more than an hour without his once noticing that I was not well. Moreover, I was able in the waning light to read the small print of a Bible Concordance, causing my visitor to remark upon the excellence of my sight. After he left I was again unable to see to read until a few hours later, when I could manage large print with the aid of glasses.

On Tuesday morning I awoke entirely healed of the influenza. However, error then declared that as an after effect I had contracted a bad liver attack of a kind which formerly, when serving in the tropics, had troubled me greatly. And, indeed, for about three hours it seemed to be so; but before midday this difficulty also was completely overcome and I was able to resume my ordinary activities.
