Over twenty years ago I found the "pearl of great price" through the study and application of Christian Science. A near neighbor who was just beginning the study called my attention to it, and lent me some of the literature. It impressed me as being just what I had always been seeking, and as soon as possible I procured a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and my friend and I took up the study together. From the first it seemed so logical and reasonable that I was sure it must be the truth, and wanted to tell everyone about it. But when my efforts were met with incredulity and misunderstanding, I learned to wait until I found one who was receptive and really wanted the truth before offering to share my new-found treasure.
For a number of years I had been subject to frequent attacks of acute pain in my right side. These attacks were so severe I did not recover from one for at least a week. I had consulted the family doctor, but he could provide no remedy that would alleviate the pain. My neighbor suggested that I should call her when the next attack came, so immediately upon its appearance she began work for me. In not more than fifteen minutes the pain lifted as if a dark cloud had vanished, leaving perfect ease—not even leaving with me the sore, tender feeling in my side which had always before followed an attack. This was indeed positive proof that we had found the right way. That was my first healing in Christian Science, but not my last. I have found this healing truth, when properly applied, to be the unfailing remedy for every ill.
I have been healed of so many ailments that used to claim dominion over me that I could not enumerate them all. Headaches, weak eyes, bronchitis which had become chronic, a sprained ankle which had become much swollen and discolored—all these have vanished into the nothingness from whence they came, sometimes with the help of others, sometimes from reading the Christian Science textbooks and applying the truth as we are taught in Christian Science.
