My heart overflows with gratitude for the constant and abundant good which comes to us through the many activities in the Christian Science movement. "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord." And truly I am a witness to the healing, regenerating power of Truth as revealed to us by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
In July, 1938. some friends called for me one Wednesday evening to take me to church. When I got out of the car at the church I stepped in a hole, fell on the sidewalk, and landed on my right hand. My friends came to my assistance and asked me if I was hurt. I told them I was all right, and we went into the church. My hand was very painful, but I kept my glove on; and when the hymn was announced I reached for the Hymnal and realized that I had no use of my hand. I was still suffering much pain. When my friends took me home after the service, they asked if I was sure I was not hurt. My reply was that I was all right.
I worked all night, and the next morning the suggestion came to me that I had better stay in my room, but I did not accept it, and with the help of a maid I dressed and went to the office about eleven o'clock. A dear one with whom I am closely associated asked me to sit quietly while she read the chapter on Prayer in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Before she had finished reading the chapter I was completely healed. I could move my fingers and there was no pain, and presently I could use my hand for the first time since the evening before. I realized more clearly than ever before the truth of what our revered Leader says on page 424 of Science and Health: "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony. Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." When I went to my room in the evening my hand was free from discoloration. That night I washed some handkerchiefs and some hose.
