CHURCH DEDICATION

From the June 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is the practice and rule in Churches of Christ, Scientist, that the church edifice shall not be dedicated until it is fully paid for. Naturally the dedication of a branch church is dear to the heart of all the members, and they work hopefully and confidently toward this greatly desired goal.

The Bible tells us that as tithes are brought into the storehouse, the Lord of hosts will "open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it" (Mal. 3:10). The expression of Godlike qualities such as gratitude, joy, and love will always result in our human needs' being met.

To material sense it sometimes seems that more funds are the primary need of the undedicated church, but this is never the case. The real need is for more love, compassion, and Christliness of thought on the part of the individual church members.
