Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, once wrote to a student: "A real scientific Healer is the highest position attainable in this sphere of being. Its altitude is far above a Teacher or preacher; it includes all that is divinely high and holy" (Mary Baker Eddy: A Life Size Portrait, by Lyman P. Powell, 1950 edition, p. 316).
We read that Jesus gave the following command to his disciples (Matt. 10:8): "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give." This ability may be attained by all who study thoroughly the Bible, together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and the other writings by Mrs. Eddy, and who continue in the spirit of what has been read, demonstrating the truth in daily living.
From the title of Science and Health it is evident that this textbook deals with a Science which relates to health. It shows that health can be attained through a knowledge of scientific Christianity. In the pages of Science and Health the perfection of God and His universe, including man, is unfolded. Healing is natural in Christian Science because this Science teaches that man's being is spiritual, that man is the reflection of God.
