In order to attain the state of mind that heals the sick and the sinning, we must accept and prove, at least in part, the fundamental truth which Mary Baker Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 276), "Man and his Maker are correlated in divine Science, and real consciousness is cognizant only of the things of God." This wonderful truth that neither God nor man, His image and likeness, can be conscious of evil has many applications in daily life which students of Christian Science find effective.
In her book "Unity of Good," Mrs. Eddy gives this remarkable instance of how she used this truth (p. 7): "When I have most clearly seen and most sensibly felt that the infinite recognizes no disease, this has not separated me from God, but has so bound me to Him as to enable me instantaneously to heal a cancer which had eaten its way to the jugular vein."
When our study of Christian Science has revealed to us that the material mind is not real and that individual, spiritual consciousness, which knows only good, is the only consciousness we can have, then we are assured of a sound base for spiritual progress. While he was joyously contemplating this truth some months ago, the writer perceived some aspects of it which have been so enlightening that they are recorded here in the hope that they may be helpful to others.
