Poems

For the Practitioner

From the June 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

You in whose uplifted hand
the mirror flashes sunlight
on the land,
take heart!

Through your clear sight
the multitudes can see their true identity;

and if your arms grow weary
or the nights increase
the burden of your labor,
think of those

who, through the wasteland, trek
towards the dark-dispelling
glory of a burning bush.

Then lift your gaze unto
the holy panorama: see yourself,
you who hold a mirror up to Life,
likewise depicted as God's image,
whole and free.
