Christian Science came to me twenty-two years ago when I was ready to commit suicide. My first marriage had been a very unhappy one. After three years of married life, I was heartbroken, in despair, and so much discouraged that I lost all joy and all hope.
I was living in Paris, France, but I had a sister living in New York who was a Christian Scientist. I knew nothing about Christian Science, and she knew nothing about my situation but must have surmised my problem, for she sent me copies of the Bible, of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and of the Christian Science Quarterly. On the first page of Science and Health she had written, "Darling sister, before you take the last step read this book from beginning to end, and I know by my prayer, God will be revealed to you."
In a letter, she gave me the address of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Paris, and asked me to go to the Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I have often thanked God that that very day was a Wednesday. I went to the church, and one of the testimonies was so uplifting that I forgot all about suicide. A new way of life has opened for me, and I cannot count my blessings. Since then Christian Science has been my only physician, my only medicine.
