An old folk story tells of an eagle that from the time of its birth grew up among a flock of chickens. By the time it was grown the eagle had the habits of a chicken. The eagle was unaware of its own natural ability to fly until one day, after repeated goadings, it stretched wide its wings and flew with ease out of the restricted chicken yard.
Men in general are much like the eagle in this story. Ignorant of man's natural abilities and his heritage of perfect freedom, men restrict themselves through their own limited concepts.
"Citizens of the world, accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God,' and be free! This is your divine right." These encouraging words of Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 227) have served to break the mesmeric bonds of many individuals, enslaved by their own limited, material beliefs, and have helped to awaken them to realize that man has inherited divine and inalienable rights from his Father-Mother God.
