IMPROVING OUR RATING

From the July 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many employers use a system of tests that enables them to rate their applicants and employees according to their aptitudes. These evaluation tests vary greatly, but their main purpose is to determine the degree of ingenuity, sharpness, resourcefulness, stamina, and so on, possessed by the one being tested. Since these qualifications are all mental, it is possible to judge them without putting the applicant on an actual job. The score on the test is considered a reflection of the relative amount of the ability possessed by the testee. His score is compared with the characteristics required for the job; and if it is low, he is judged too poor a risk to be given a trial.

The mistaken belief that the qualities one has belong to him as a person, that they are therefore limited, and that some people are naturally gifted while others are deficient tends to keep many able people from gaining a satisfactory sense of service or employment.

Those who have become acquainted with the teachings of Christian Science learn that these limiting notions about man are not true, since all good qualities are of God, and man, His idea, reflects them. Since God is infinite, man reflects these infinitely good qualities in unlimited degree. We July, 1962] demonstrate these truths in our experience as we identify ourselves spiritually as God's reflection and claim our right to express all His qualities.
