THE WAY OUT OF THE MIDDLE

From the July 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"I'm caught in the middle!" exclaimed an office worker who was describing a condition of unhappy human relationships among his fellow workers.

Like this worker, we too may seem to be buffeted about by differing opinions, methods, standards, backgrounds, and policies. Is there a way out? Yes! Christian Science shows clearly that the way out is found by lifting thought to the mountaintop of spiritual inspiration through enlightened prayer. When one persistently and fearlessly lifts his thought above the mortal beliefs and arguments of matter as real, lawmaking, and law-enforcing, he sees the way out of discordant conditions, whatever form these take. The Psalmist said (Ps. 121:1), "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help."

More than once Christ Jesus went to the mountain to pray. He looked for the spiritual inspiration needed in healing the sick and reforming the sinning and found it. Spiritual communion with God was his means and method. Knowing the reality of good and the illusive nature of discord, he proved himself master of every material effect claiming to stem from material so-called law.
