Christian Science came into my family's experience when I was an infant. My mother was healed through it of a stomach ailment after the physician had said that in his opinion she had only three months to live. This Science was brought to her notice by friends when they learned that their son, living in another state, had been healed of tuberculosis by this new teaching. This was before the turn of the century, and our family was the only one for miles around to learn of this spiritual method of healing.
Reading the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly, as well as articles from The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel, was a daily practice. In this way, whenever we were afraid or troubled or ill, we learned to turn to God through the Lord's Prayer, Psalms 23 and 91, and statements of truth from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
However, I did not really study Christian Science until after I was married. In the meantime I became a medical nurse because it seemed to be the most profitable work I could fit myself for at that time. But the truths of Christian Science in my consciousness kept me from accepting as true about God's creation much of what I heard or took part in, and I gave up medical nursing about a year after I was married.
