My introduction to Christian Science came through a woman who was rooming in our home when I was in high school. Seeing me with a sprained ankle, she recommended having Christian Science treatment for it. My parents consented because they admired her poise and attitude. All discomfort left my ankle very soon, but I cannot remember that I was even grateful. It seems, as I look back now, that good seed was sown on very poor ground.
It was not until fifteen years later, when I was going through deep water, that I wondered if there really was a God. I had been working hard in an orthodox church guild, attending church, and doing what seemed to be the things to do as a church member. But a big stone wall seemed to be before me and round about me. My only prayer was for peace of mind and for wisdom and patience to help me to rear my children.
It was then that Christian Science came to my thought again. A lecture on it was to be given soon, and I asked a friend if I could attend it with her. The lecturer said that at one time he had had to take over a failing business and that by relying on God's direction, he had made a success of it.
