Action, But No Reaction

From the October 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Spiritual man, the likeness of God, acts; he does not react. In the truth and reality of man's being there is always action but never reaction.

This distinction is helpful as we endeavor to learn more about the nature of man as revealed in Christian Science. The understanding that God is the source of all true action adds to our capacities and our joy. The knowledge of the impossibility of reaction can be a protecting and healing truth in our experience.

Because God is the only power, He is the only initiator of action. The ability to act is manifested and expressed in man. But it is not a case of God prodding and man responding willingly or unwillingly. Man is the individualized expression of God's activity.
