Manhood and Brotherhood

From the October 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science teaches that there is but one God, one divinely creative Mind, who is the Father of all. It further holds that the man of God's creating is wholly spiritual. He exists as an image or idea of this Father Mind. Under the fatherhood of God, divine Mind, manhood and brotherhood are elements of a divine plan, which is inviolate.

In keeping with this truth of existence, Christian Science teaches one to be kindly, understanding, and helpful to others. It reveals one's own true selfhood in the image and likeness of God and gives one the courage, industry, and persistence to open his heart to the spiritual fact that perfect selfhood belongs to all.

Contrary to this divine plan of spiritual manhood and brotherhood under the fatherhood of one God is a supposititious dream of existence, where what is called mortal mind, or material sense, seems to rule. Here man appears to be separated from God, to be projected into a material existence apart from the divine Mind, beyond the range of God's allness and His loving care of all His children.
