Physical Healing and the Spiritual View

From the October 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Does Christian Science really do all the things it claims to?" The Christian Scientist, confronted with this inquiry from the stranger, may quickly affirm the healing power of his religion. But what does one say to the sick person, who, after some long struggle for healing, wearily declares, "I know it works for some, but it isn't working for me"?

God is Principle, and divine Principle is expressed through unvarying law. Christian Science is the application of this law of Principle to human affairs. It works for anyone who applies it correctly. Principle is Love, and works in ways that bless and heal mankind. Mary Baker Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals."Science and Health, p. 13.

What, then, makes the difference between being healed and not being healed when one is endeavoring to apply the scientific healing Principle to his life? It may be our concept of healing. Is true healing only a release from fleshly bondage? Christian Science says No. Metaphysical healing involves spiritual regeneration, and when this takes place, fleshly ills naturally disappear.
