A New Frame of Reference

From the October 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Don't rework the picture," the artist said to the student painter. "Change the frame."

Experienced artists know what odd things a bad frame can do to an otherwise successful painting. It can cast shadows and even cause subtle distortions. An inexperienced student might try to rework the canvas and so risk spoiling it; but if the picture is framed properly, it suddenly glows with new life.

It is somewhat the same with so-called problems of heredity. They must be healed where they originate—in the framework of human belief. But beliefs of human heredity are frequently hard to pinpoint in human consciousness. They often elude detection when one is overly familiar with them.
