Paul's awakening to the Christ set him afire. He had to spread the good news and did—throughout the eastern reaches of a pagan empire.
His usual practice was to bring his message to the Jewish members of the towns he visited. But Gentile sympathizers attended the synagogues, and soon the word traveled to the Gentiles in the community. Inevitably the question arose: Could non-Jews become genuine Christians without first becoming Jews and observing Jewish rites?
A similiar situation exists today in Christian Science—not with regard to non-Jews but with regard to slow or nonreaders, many of whom are in jails or other institutions or in ghettos. Must these people first enter the middle-class reading culture before becoming Christian Scientists?
