Since 1959, when my first testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel, I have enjoyed many blessings through the study of Christian Science. I should like to relate how the sustaining power of this religion supported me during the last five years when I suddenly found myself alone and confronted with difficult business problems.
The tenants who for fourteen years had occupied a building I owned began to violate the lease. Although the building itself was in excellent condition, the area in which it is located was rapidly deteriorating and becoming deserted. For this reason prospects for another tenant seemed slim.
For some time my lawyer tried to persuade me not to be too demanding, as he feared total loss if the tenants were evicted. There was great fear in my thought, but after much praying I saw that I would not be abiding by Principle unless I took the tenant to court. The attorney reluctantly agreed. Through court action a settlement of all the money due was quickly made. The lawyer told me this had worked out far more favorably than he had ever expected. These words in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy had been most helpful to me (p. 441): "The plea of False Belief we deem unworthy of a hearing."
