I am grateful to say that, as a lifelong Christian Scientist, steadfast reliance on God as our true Father-Mother has brought proofs of His love and care.
When I was a young child, through the prayers of my parents and a dedicated Christian Science practitioner, I was completely healed of infantile paralysis. In conformity with state laws, I was placed in the isolation ward of a local hospital, but at my parents' request I had absolutely no medical assistance. A close family friend, a doctor who knew that our family was relying totally on Christian Science for healing, assured the hospital staff that I was being well cared for through prayer. And they apparently accepted this without question. The paralysis was gone in about ten days, and I returned to school. So thorough was this healing that in later years I flew in the United States Air Force and passed each physical examination satisfactorily, receiving no medical restrictions whatsoever.
When one of my daughters was quite young, she fell and hurt her head. The condition, which included symptoms of amnesia, was quickly dispelled. The youngster was restored to complete lucidity when her mother and I realized that her true spiritual identity as a child of God could not be altered, and that the presence of divine Mind could not be obscured by belief in a nonfunctioning mortal mind. There were no further problems.
