As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I have had many healings. In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we read, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." I had the opportunity to prove the truth of this statement when one Christmas our daughter woke with a fever. We talked to her about God's love and constant care for her. The description of Japhet (Noah's son) given in Science and Health was helpful: "A type of spiritual peace, flowing from the understanding that God is the divine Principle of all existence, and that man is His idea, the child of His care." I knew that God had always cared for our daughter and that her identity was spiritual and perfect.
By late afternoon it was evident that our daughter and I would not be attending the family Christmas gathering. Despite my trust that she would be healed through Christian Science, she seemed to be worse by later that evening.
I informed the Christian Science practitioner who was praying with us of her condition. By 11 p.m. we felt an extremely urgent need for immediate help.
