Healing services

From the January 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have always loved the Wednesday testimony meetings held in Christian Science churches each week. They're open to everyone to hear what God is saying. Inspired words are read from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. And everyone attending has the opportunity to tell how prayer to God has brought restoration and healing to his or her own life.

It's not so much a question of what form the healings have come in—improved family, social, or business relationships or healing of disease, grief, sin, or sickness. What's important is that the opportunity is available for each one to express his gratitude for the good that has come through an increased understanding of man's relationship to God.

In the past when I attended, I often expressed gratitude for the Wednesday evening meeting itself, because it was what I considered to be an oasis in the middle of the week. I saw these meetings as a time when I could pause, suspend my concerns about the details of my business, contemplate the teachings of Christ Jesus, and listen to members of the congregation tell how the practice of those teachings brought healing to their lives. I felt that if there was any place in town where I could go and depart refreshed, it was these services.
