Testimonies of Healing

When I first heard of Christian Science my husband, owing to an incipient so-called incurable disease, was no longer able to carry on our business. With our three small children, I saw myself confronted with problems and decisions of an economic and educational nature which from a human point of view seemed too difficult for me.

The testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals have been so helpful to me that I thought I should like to add mine. The first article I read in The Christian Science Journal nearly twenty years ago convinced me that Christian Science was the truth.

In childhood I was healed by Christian Science of the effects of drinking concentrated lye, after my mother had been told there was no help from material remedies. During the interim, I depended upon the truth for help and was many times healed of serious ailments, yet I accepted the truth more on the basis of belief than of understanding, my thought being more or less dormant.

I should like to express gratitude for the great good that has come to me since I began the study of Christian Science nearly twelve years ago. There has been hardly a day during that time without some proof of the healing power of Truth.

Gratitude is a spring of joy in my heart for the blessings that have come into my life through the study and application of Christian Science. One healing which I should like to mention in particular, and for which I was especially grateful, was that of poisoning, caused by eating a certain food.

I wish to tell of the incident that caused me to become interested in Christian Science. My brother had passed on, and as I was the only unmarried member of the family, it seemed to be my duty to take care of his wife and three small children.

I am very grateful for the many healings experienced and the spiritual understanding gained through the study of Christian Science. In July, 1925, a baby girl was born into our home.

In the seventh chapter of Revelation we read, "These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. " I can testify to the truth of these words, for Christian Science has indeed brought me out of great tribulation.

Eighteen years ago the spiritual import of that utterance of Jesus, "Ye must be born again," unfolded to me in unmistakable terms. I had called God "Father" in theory, but was believing that I was a mortal, in spite of the clear-cut teaching found in James, "Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries?" My husband's mother, who had been a Christian Scientist for many years, came from the Pacific Coast to visit us.

During the last eighteen years I have had so many manifestations of the healing efficacy of the truth as revealed in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, that I earnestly desire to express my joy and gratitude for these proofs of divine Love's ever present power. In the winter of 1909 it became necessary to resign from a position of piano instructor on account of nervous prostration and insomnia.
