Testimonies of Healing
Ten years ago, when I was suffering from a great grief caused by the passing on of a loved one, and had reached the stage where I had lost all faith in God and His willingness to answer prayer, a neighbor said to me, "I have the Christian Science textbook; would you like to read it?" As I said I would, she brought it to me. I started to read, and had been doing so only a short time, about two hours, when a great joy flooded my consciousness as I realized that what this book said was true.
About five years ago I was well and able to attend daily to my business. I was living at that time, as I thought, a good Christian life, when I suddenly was laid low with paralysis.
It is now over four years since Christian Science found me. I was at that time a very weary woman, suffering from rheumatoid arthritis; and although under the care of two doctors, I gradually grew worse.
When I first heard of Christian Science I was living in Denver, Colorado. I bought the book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, because some very kind ladies I knew in my business possessed and read "the little book," and I felt I wanted good and popular books in my home, especially for a nephew I was rearing.
When Christian Science was first brought to my attention, I was a confirmed scoffer at the laws inculcated by this wonderful boon to humanity. I could easily believe anything told me that was derogatory to its teachings.
Christian Science has so entirely changed my life in the thirteen years I have been studying it that it seems almost impossible to find words to express all that it means to me. In July, 1915, after being ill for nearly a year, I was told by our family physician and a specialist to whom he sent me that I had lung and heart trouble, and that there was little or no hope of recovery.
One morning when relatives had returned home from a vacation trip and a great deal of visiting was being done, a sense of suffering presented itself to my thought, and later the word "mastoid" kept coming to me. The manifestation became greatly aggravated during the afternoon, and about six o'clock a Christian Science practitioner was called.
Profound gratitude to God and to Christian Science prompts me to give this testimony. For twenty years I suffered from a very bad eye complaint, which grew worse each year, until nine years ago I was almost blind.
I gratefully and humbly give thanks to God for the blessings I have experienced since I have had the privilege of knowing of this wonderful Christ-Science. It has transformed and illumined my life; it has helped me to correct wrong thinking; it has enabled me to overcome to a great extent feelings of resentment and injustice; it is giving me greater peace, more real love, and a better understanding of man in God's image and likeness.
In humble gratitude I should like to tell of some of the many blessings I have received from Christian Science. I first heard of this Science in 1919, but it was not until the summer of 1924 that I was driven by mental and physical suffering to seek relief through it; and the strange part of it was that I knew all that time I had only to turn to Christian Science to be healed.
