About ten years ago I was healed through Christian Science of severe cold and sore throat while on a visit in the West, and from that time have applied no means of healing except Christian Science. I had constantly had colds, and though I had been treated by a practitioner several times, I did not understand the teachings, nor was I convinced that I had been helped.
About twelve years ago I turned to Christian Science to gain relief from rheumatism. At that time I was also suffering great mental anguish as the result of a very unhappy experience.
While recovering from one of many attacks of appendicitis, I was handed Christian Science literature by a friend who was very much interested in me. I was so miserable that I did not really enjoy reading the literature, as I never cared to read anything.
It is with profound gratitude that I give the following testimony, which but vaguely expresses all that I owe to Christian Science, to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to the practitioner. Upon being called one morning, I was found to be unconscious.
Several years have passed since dear friends called my attention to Christian Science, which heals not only sickness but also deep sorrow. I attended a Christian Science church and found great satisfaction in its teaching, so that I had the desire to learn more of the spiritual import of the Bible, as revealed through Christian Science.
Christian Science came into my life about twelve years ago, and the outlook that I have had since then I would not exchange for any price, nor would I go back to the old way of living. Christian Science has changed me from a semi-invalid, into one who knows there is only one Mind; and when we are obedient and try to have the Mind that was in Christ Jesus, all our difficulties fade away into their native nothingness.
Several years ago I wrote a testimony of my first healing, which was published in the Christian Science Sentinel , and it is only recently that the thought has come to me that we owe it to the Cause to bear witness more than once through the pages of our periodicals, just as truly as it is our duty and privilege to give our testimonies in our Wednesday evening meetings. It is over twenty years since I was healed of a so-called incurable disease through the reading of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
Before taking up the study of Christian Science I had been suffering for several years from mental depression caused by operations on the head. I would spend hours planning suicide.
When a youth of fifteen years I became afflicted with tuberculous periostitis, a disease of the covering membrane of the bone. After undergoing medical treatment for two years, which were spent mostly on my back in an iron splint extending the full length of my body, I was, at the end of that period, told I could use my leg again.
