Testimonies of Healing

To one who had always been very skeptical about and prejudiced against Christian Science, my first healing was a seeming miracle. Nearly four years ago I was suffering from partial blindness, throat paralysis, and many other ills, as the result of a severe case of black diphtheria.

Several years ago Christian Science came into our family, finding us unhappy and dissatisfied, and my father in a bad condition physically. Through the help of a practitioner he was healed; and from the beginning of the treatment a change from gloom to a happier mental state came into the consciousness of each member of the family.

[Original testimony in German] I thank God with all my heart for the many blessings and healings we have received in Christian Science. In October, 1918, I was taken ill with pleurisy, but was healed in one week's treatment by a Christian Science practitioner, so that a week later I was able to undertake a journey to West Prussia.

I first looked into Christian Science in 1902, not for any particular healing, but because the friends into whose home town I had moved had become Christian Scientists and I wished to see what they were interested in. Before I had finished reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and while I apparently had little or no understanding of it, a lifelong stomach trouble disappeared.

Since my early childhood, Christian Science has been studied in our home, and it therefore has seemed only natural for me to turn to the divine Principle of its teachings for help when a difficulty of any nature has presented itself. The fact that Christian Science had been my only religion, however, probably led me to take too much for granted, and I did not study and endeavor to apply its teachings as I should have done, until brought to a stern realization of that necessity in the last few years.

It would be difficult indeed to tell all that the study of Christian Science and the understanding of the Bible gained thereby have meant, and after more than twelve years continue to mean, to me. There have been many instances of healing and correction of discordant conditions.

[Original testimony in German] I wish to express my great gratitude for a quick healing I experienced through Christian Science. In September, 1921, I was stung by a wasp on the back of my neck.

The testimony of my wife is true. From that date I felt no more of the tired head.

I like to recall one of our early experiences in Christian Science, because it convinced us that Christian Science does heal, and that we, with our very limited understanding, got results. My husband had just told me that he had almost decided that he must give up his business, possibly permanently, and take a long vacation in search of rest and recuperation.

A short time ago I fell heavily down some very slippery steps outside my home on the Crown Mines, Johannesburg, into an open cemented drain, breaking my wrist. I picked myself up and sat for a minute or two on the step, declaring that God was my help.
