Testimonies of Healing

For many years Christian Science has been my only help and comfort, in every difficulty that has presented itself. When it was brought to me, I was not in need of physical healing, but my mental condition was restless and unsatisfied, and I seemed to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

I am glad to express my deep gratitude for Christian Science, for the loving and unselfish life and work of our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," written by her. About five years ago I borrowed a copy of the Christian Science textbook, and through reading it was healed of astigmatism, for which I had worn glasses more than three years.

It is over twenty years since my first healing through spiritual power took place. I was healed of rheumatism by one week's treatment in Christian Science; but the light of the truth taught in Christian Science had come to my consciousness about two years before that, at the time of the birth of our second child.

I wish to express gratitude for the many blessings I have received since I first became interested in Christian Science, some sixteen years ago. Through the help of a practitioner I was at that time healed of intestinal indigestion; also of astigmatism, for which I had worn glasses several years.

To one who had always been very skeptical about and prejudiced against Christian Science, my first healing was a seeming miracle. Nearly four years ago I was suffering from partial blindness, throat paralysis, and many other ills, as the result of a severe case of black diphtheria.

Several years ago Christian Science came into our family, finding us unhappy and dissatisfied, and my father in a bad condition physically. Through the help of a practitioner he was healed; and from the beginning of the treatment a change from gloom to a happier mental state came into the consciousness of each member of the family.

I first looked into Christian Science in 1902, not for any particular healing, but because the friends into whose home town I had moved had become Christian Scientists and I wished to see what they were interested in. Before I had finished reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and while I apparently had little or no understanding of it, a lifelong stomach trouble disappeared.

[Original testimony in German] I thank God with all my heart for the many blessings and healings we have received in Christian Science. In October, 1918, I was taken ill with pleurisy, but was healed in one week's treatment by a Christian Science practitioner, so that a week later I was able to undertake a journey to West Prussia.

Since my early childhood, Christian Science has been studied in our home, and it therefore has seemed only natural for me to turn to the divine Principle of its teachings for help when a difficulty of any nature has presented itself. The fact that Christian Science had been my only religion, however, probably led me to take too much for granted, and I did not study and endeavor to apply its teachings as I should have done, until brought to a stern realization of that necessity in the last few years.

It would be difficult indeed to tell all that the study of Christian Science and the understanding of the Bible gained thereby have meant, and after more than twelve years continue to mean, to me. There have been many instances of healing and correction of discordant conditions.
