Testimonies of Healing
It was through a friend that Christian Science was brought to me as that power which can overcome sin. Step by step it has been proved effectual, and for the last ten years has been the only means of healing used in my home.
Since coming into Christian Science, about three and a half years ago, I have many times thought I would send for publication a brief account of my experience. In September, 1893, I was ordained a minister, and continued in the work of the ministry for about sixteen years.
Christian Science did not come to me at a time of physical need, but it came when I had ceased to get satisfaction from the faith I professed. Almost as soon as I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs.
Six years ago it would have been hard to find a more discouraged mortal than I, not because of ill health, though I was far from strong, but because I was so unhappy that I longed to die. The conditions of our home life were discordant and our financial affairs distressing.
It is with a grateful heart that I would like to relate a few instances in which blessings have been experienced in my family through Christian Science. A cousin of mine who had been healed by its ministration drew our attention to this new religion, and many have been the proofs of Truth's power that we have had since.
Before turning to Christian Science I suffered from stomach disorder of twenty years' standing, and chronic bowel trouble dating back to early childhood. I was also subject to severe headaches, and last but by no means least sleeplessness was added, rendering my existence well-nigh unbearable.
SOME nine years ago, when I was in practice as a surgeon, I first heard of Christian Science, and investigated it for the purpose of exposing what I considered to be its falsities. Soon, however, I became much interested in its teachings.
In 1910, at the close of my high school work, I was in an extremely nervous condition, and our family physician emphatically declared that I would not be able to take up a college course. I was so disappointed that it seemed as though nothing was worth while.
When I came to Christian Science I was a sick, unhappy woman, reaching out to anything that gave a ray of hope. Finally, hearing that a lady lived near our town who healed the sick without medicine, I decided to go to see her, as I had given medicine a fair trial and was nothing bettered.
It is with a heart full of thankfulness to God that I wish to acknowledge publicly what Christian Science has done for me. About eight years ago I was instantaneously healed of neuralgia.
