Testimonies of Healing
I am grateful for those who persisted against every threat, even death itself, to record and to preserve the sacred Scriptures and to establish the worship of the one God, for the faithful Jesus, our Exemplar, for the life of Mrs. Eddy, and for all who have seen the significance of her mission and have sacrificed whatever was necessary to serve its purpose.
"To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. " These words in Psalm 30 impelled me to write the following account of a few of the beneficial effects of the application of Christian Science in my family.
Two healings in my experience have served as landmarks. They occurred within a short period of time, and each in its own way made me realize that the study of Christian Science had started me on a way of life from which there could be no turning, unless I wished to live by guesswork, or trial and error, instead of by divine Principle.
Christian Science came into my experience at a time when I was in great need of a practical religion. I shall never forget the joy of the first healing I witnessed, which came about through my own reading of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs.
I am deeply grateful for Christian Science and its merciful message to mankind. As a young adult I found myself in a very unhappy situation and unhealed of a displaced spinal disk after more than a year of medical treatment.
Religious questions had always especially interested me. Although I knew almost nothing about the Old and New Testaments, I was very skeptical, since I saw little practical application of Christian teachings.
When I was a boy, we moved next door to a Christian Science family. After her husband had gone to work, the wife would go out into the backyard to study the Christian Science Quarterly Lesson-Sermon from the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs.
Christian Science came to me at a time when I was extremely depressed and fearful and growing more and more embittered and resentful over discordant and very difficult relationships, prolonged illness in the home, and an increasing sense of lack. I was in despair; I no longer knew what to do.
It is some forty years since Christian Science was brought to my notice in a time of great need. I was greatly impressed by what I heard of its healing power, and very soon afterward Science and Health was brought to me by a woman who had received wonderful healing results from its teachings.
When I found Christian Science, I was filled with self-importance and self-will, thinking that my way was the only way, and even when proof was presented revealing that I was wrong, I was too stubborn to accept it, becoming quite impatient, irritated, and unforgiving to those who disagreed with me. How very much I needed the correcting rod! As I studied Christian Science, I learned how important it is to profit by the lessons learned.
