Testimonies of Healing

When I was a child at boarding school, I was taken ill with what the doctors diagnosed as a serious disease of the heart. I was sent home and from that time was not allowed to run about, play games, swim, dance, or in any other way exert myself.

When Christian Science was first presented to me in 1907, I had no inclination to study it, although I was in need of greater physical strength. However, a number of years later I was ready to accept the truth taught by Mary Baker Eddy in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

Before I came into Christian Science my health was precarious, and I was a prey to discouragement. I had been under the care of doctors, one of whom told me that I was not responsive to medicine.

It is with a deep sense of love and joy that I express my gratitude to God for His protection and ever-available healing power. Through the study of Christian Science, we know that God is always present and all-harmonious and that man, God's idea, cannot be touched by an accident or a discordant condition of any kind.

Over twenty years ago I was greatly impressed by seeing a small boy quickly and completely healed of pneumonia through Christian Science treatment. At the first opportunity I bought the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs.

Christian Science has manifested a profound influence in my life since its teachings have been fully accepted and an honest effort has been made to apply its precepts to my everyday living. Despite the fact that my mother was an earnest Christian Scientist, who taught her children the truths of her religion, when I went out into the world I almost entirely neglected the teachings of my childhood.

I applied for class instruction in Christian Science during the same year in which I was married. As I had only two weeks' vacation, I gave up the opportunity to have a honeymoon so that I might spend the time in class.

Thirty-five years of dependence on the power and love of God as taught by Christian Science have brought so much good into my life that I wish to express my gratitude in this testimony. My family first learned of Christian Science when as a small child I was suffering from influenza, mastoiditis, and the results of an unskillful operation to remove my tonsils.

Gratitude for help received from testimonies given in the periodicals and the desire to be obedient to the Manual of The Mother Church by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, prompt me to testify to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. As a child I spent much time with my grandmothers, who, through their example of Christian devoutness, gave me great faith in God.
