
Testimonies of Healing
I became interested in Christian Science in 1918, shortly before entering college. At that time I was suffering from a diseased condition of the tonsils which had troubled me for several years.
On page 208 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader, says, "You embrace your body in your thought, and you should delineate upon it thoughts of health, not of sickness. " My testimony is given as a proof of this statement and as encouragement for others to know that they can rely completely on Christian Science for healing.
The testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals and those given at Wednesday noon and evening services have brought me so much help and inspiration in my study of Christian Science that I wish to express my loving gratitude to God for the comfort, happiness, and healings which this Science has brought into my life. When Christian Science was first presented to me I was not interested, but "man's extremity is God's opportunity.
Christian Science came into my experience about fifteen years ago, after one of the best authorities on medicine had told me that he could do no more for me. My sister wrote me that in spite of what the doctor had said, she knew that I could be healed in Christian Science.
"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good" ( I Thess. 5:21 ).
I am very grateful for the opportunity of expressing my gratitude for Christian Science. Many are the blessings I have received through its ministrations.
Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in "Retrospection and Introspection" ( p. 93 ), "The best spiritual type of Christly method for uplifting human thought and imparting divine Truth, is stationary power, stillness, and strength; and when this spiritual ideal is made our own, it becomes the model for human action.
My first experience in Christian Science was the witnessing of an instantaneous healing of a dear one, whom I carried bodily into a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. She had reached the so-called fatal stage of asthma, and related ills, and physicians had despaired of curing her.
I took up the study of Christian Science, not for personal healing, but to try to find God. Although I had been brought up in a home where the Bible was much used and had attended an orthodox church since childhood, I still felt there were many things that were unexplained which I wanted to understand.
