Testimonies of Healing
My interest was drawn toward Christian Science because of two healings I witnessed—one of blindness, the other of organic trouble. Before this, I had condemned Christian Science, because I believed that it was based on spiritualism or some peculiar cult.
My first recollection of hearing Christian Science mentioned was when I was a small child and my mother repeated an explanation as given to her, that the material body is not the real man. Many times thereafter, when I was growing up, I pondered that statement and made an effort to reconcile it to reason.
Christian Science came into my life many years ago when a relative stayed with us about two weeks, bringing her Bible, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and some periodicals with her.
Many times I have felt that I should express in writing my gratitude for the numerous proofs of God's care I have had. Now I feel compelled to do so, hoping someone may be helped as I have been by reading the experiences of others.
It has been my privilege to serve my country in both World Wars. In the first war I served in the Navy.
Christian Science was first brought to my attention by a neighbor, who one Sunday invited me to accompany her to church. The invitation came as a surprise, for I had told her that I was not interested in church attendance, but I accepted because I loved her.
As the years of study and demonstration of Christian Science go by, I grow increasingly grateful for the progress made in letting God govern my life. The freedom which has come to me from learning more and more to leave plans and their outcome to God is beyond any I previously dreamed of.
My first experience in Christian Science occurred in 1925, when a member of my family was given no hope by physicians and specialists of ever being well or being able to return home. At that time, as a last resort, I was asked to give Christian Science a trial, which I did in good faith.
In the quarter of a century that I have been endeavoring to demonstrate the truth, as revealed in Christian Science, I have had many healings, although I have had few serious illnesses during that period. My good health I attribute to the operation of Truth in my consciousness.
From early childhood I have had contact with Christian Scientists, but for several years I considered myself opposed to Christian Science. Its teaching that God does not create evil, however, was something that always stayed with me.
