Testimonies of Healing
It was with no hope of being healed that seventeen years ago I began reading, then studying Christian Science. My only desire and hope was to find a more satisfying concept of God upon which to lean while submitting to a serious operation.
For a number of years, painful attacks had been visiting me with increasing frequency, attended with an ache in the vicinity of the stomach. After suffering all one night with pain that had lasted for three days, I asked a member of the household to call a Christian Science practitioner in another city who had helped me before.
A few years ago, when returning to the West Coast, I became involved in an accident and was rushed to an emergency hospital. The verdict was that the case was hopeless.
As I look back on my childhood days in Poland and recall the suffering I went through, my gratitude for Christian Science grows deeper and deeper. I experienced most of the common so-called children's diseases, and as I grew into young womanhood was never free from pain.
Before I became interested in Christian Science I thought I had much to be sad about and that my being sad would cause God to take pity on me and help me. But when I found Science I learned that God was and always had been present and ready to help, and that I needed only to accept this fact and rejoice in it.
It is truly a privilege to testify to the power of Truth, and I want to say that I am a living witness of its healing power. It was brought to me when I was standing in the very shadow of death.
Christian Science is the foundation of all that is good and worthy and happy in my life. To demonstrate the truth of its teachings is my whole purpose in life, and I should like to express my gratitude in written form for the innumerable blessings it has brought me.
I rejoice in the opportunity for expressing gratitude given by the Christian Science periodicals. When Christian Science was first presented to me I received it with great joy.
Each day finds me increasingly grateful for the moment, more than twenty years ago, when Christian Science first came to my attention. I was not at that time in need of any physical healing, but felt a vague need for more spiritual living, which my years of membership in an orthodox church did not seem to satisfy.
When quite young I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting with a Christian Scientist at her urgent but loving request. A testimony of the healing of besotted drunkenness when all else had failed him, given by a fine-looking, alert, intelligent man, make a deep impression on me, and I decided right then that if ever all else failed in my experience I too would turn to Christian Science.
