Testimonies of Healing

After I had searched in vain for a real and lasting happiness, Christian Science was brought to my attention by a friend who invited me to attend a midweek testimony meeting with her. I became greatly interested, and read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, most attentively.

When a girl in high school studying psychology, I often thought how wonderful it would be if one could always dwell in mind, above the material things of life. Little did I know that at that time there had been presented to the world a book which taught one how to apply Jesus' teachings and to dwell in the realm of Mind at all times and under all conditions.

Although I did not commence the study of Christian Science with the intention of receiving physical healing but because of its beautiful definition of God and its explanation of prayer as given in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, it was not long before I began to prove its healing power. From a very early age I had been a more or less regular smoker, and at the time I commenced to study Christian Science I had been addicted to the habit for some thirteen years, and was then smoking from twenty to thirty cigarettes a day, as well as a pipe.

About twenty-two years ago I had reached "man's extremity," and it proved my opportunity to find God. I had suffered all my life with nervous sick headaches, and had a very badly diseased throat.

For more than ten years I was considered to have incurable spinal trouble. I received the best treatment available for my condition at a number of well-known hospitals, but grew worse instead of better, and was finally fixed in a steel spinal case for the remainder of my life.

In loving appreciation of the ability to realize, even in a small degree, the truth as taught in Christian Science, I am very happy to submit to earnest seekers for physical and spiritual help the following testimony, In 1910 my mother, who had recently become interested in Christian Science through a healing, lovingly presented me with a Bible and the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

I should like to tell of the many blessings which have come to me through the study of the Bible and our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the help of faithful, loving practitioners. Truly, this book is the key to the understanding of eternal life which the Bible contains.

Christian Science was brought into our home many years ago by my elder sister. I was a mere schoolgirl, but the statement that disease was mental made a deep impression on me at that time, and I have never since doubted that Christian Science is the absolute truth.

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I add my testimony to those which appear regularly in our Christian Science periodicals, and which are a source of great joy and refreshment to me. Christian Science was brought to my notice by a dear aunt.

I am writing this testimony to express my gratitude for the many healings I have had in my years of study of Christian Science. My grandfather was a minister of a Protestant church, and, of course, we children attended the Sunday school.
