Testimonies of Healing

[Original testimony in German] With a glad and thankful heart I wish to testify to a quick healing brought about with the help of a loving practitioner. In the year 1919 I became acquainted with Christian Science through my dear mother-in-law, who had been a Christian Scientist for many years, and who had frequently told me of her many blessings and experiences.

The testimonies in all the periodicals have been such a help to me in working out similar problems that it would only be procrastination further to delay my expression of gratitude for all the wonderful things Christian Science has brought me. Needless to say, not all of these experiences may be enumerated here.

I should like to give thanks for the healing of a compound fracture of the ankle. I was helping to nurse my father, who was very ill at my brother's house.

I should like to express my gratitude for a wonderful healing that I had in January, 1930. Ice on my back porch caused me to slip and fall about eight or nine feet to the ground.

Fifteen years ago Christian Science found me filled with fear. Our daughter, then six years of age, had been given up by the doctors.

I first heard of Christian Science over thirty years ago, when my mother was healed of a condition which a surgeon told her might be alleviated by an operation, but could not be permanently corrected. My two sisters and I were entered in a Christian Science Sunday School and grew up in this atmosphere.

A number of statements, quite bitter against what the writers believed to be Christian Science, published in the newspapers of more than twenty years ago were instrumental in leading me into an investigation of the subject; for, I thought, there is surely something good in a thing against which so much is said. I did not know a Christian Scientist, or anything about the Reading Room which was located in the city.

After I had searched in vain for a real and lasting happiness, Christian Science was brought to my attention by a friend who invited me to attend a midweek testimony meeting with her. I became greatly interested, and read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, most attentively.

When a girl in high school studying psychology, I often thought how wonderful it would be if one could always dwell in mind, above the material things of life. Little did I know that at that time there had been presented to the world a book which taught one how to apply Jesus' teachings and to dwell in the realm of Mind at all times and under all conditions.

Although I did not commence the study of Christian Science with the intention of receiving physical healing but because of its beautiful definition of God and its explanation of prayer as given in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, it was not long before I began to prove its healing power. From a very early age I had been a more or less regular smoker, and at the time I commenced to study Christian Science I had been addicted to the habit for some thirteen years, and was then smoking from twenty to thirty cigarettes a day, as well as a pipe.
