Before turning to Christian Science I suffered from stomach disorder of twenty years' standing, and chronic bowel trouble dating back to early childhood. I was also subject to severe headaches, and last but by no means least sleeplessness was added, rendering my existence well-nigh unbearable. During all those years I sought the help of numerous able physicians, who without exception put forth their best endeavors to relieve my suffering, but all to little or no purpose. Faith in drugs was so strong, however, that our home bore many of the characteristics of an apothecary shop. My diet had been restricted to a few things, and these soon became distasteful.
In this most distressing plight, at the urgent request of my wife and friends I turned to Christian Science for relief; but never having been much inclined to religious thought, I naturally had slight faith in the outcome. During the second or third treatment I was surprised by being told to eat and drink whatever I liked and not to think it would hurt me. I was skeptical, and therefore slow to take this advice, but in less than a week from the first treatment I was healed of every one of the ailments, and although sixteen years have since elapsed I have not suffered from the return of any one of them. I have been free to eat and drink with the keen relish of sound health whatever has been set before me.
It is needless to say that all drugs were discarded, and that material remedies have not again been used or needed in our family. I am also pleased to testify that we never before experienced or dreamed of such freedom from physical and mental disorders as we have enjoyed since we turned to Christian Science. My profound gratitude for such seemingly miraculous restoration of health led me immediately to take up the study of Christian Science with open mind and whole heart. Soon the Bible, which had before been practically a closed book, was opened wide, and in the light of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, it has become the Book of books to me.
