Christian Science did not come to me at a time of physical need, but it came when I had ceased to get satisfaction from the faith I professed. Almost as soon as I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I gave up all belief in the power of medicine, and in giving up that belief I was healed of chronic bowel disorder. I also proved the power of Truth while in the dentist's chair, when I experienced no pain or sensation whatsoever.
After a short time, however, the study of Christian Science was given up to some extent. Then I was taken very ill and wished to go to a practitioner for help, but was persuaded to consult a physician. He at once alarmed me very much by saying that an operation was necessary, adding that I might be cured without one, but it would mean a long treatment. I consented to the operation, and it was performed shortly afterward. I was apparently all right for six or eight months, when I was again driven to Science by great mental suffering, such as disappointment and financial distress. Soon after beginning treatment, the disease for which I had been operated on returned in a very alarming form, but in six weeks it disappeared entirely. Shortly after this I took a severe cold, which ended in acute lung trouble. After a night of suffering, treatment was begun about seven o'clock in the morning, and at eleven I arose and dressed myself, ate lunch, went down-town, and practised all the afternoon for a musical. Although very weak when I returned home, that evening I took part in the musical and social festivities until a late hour. I have never had a return of the symptoms of that disease.
For all these healings I am deeply grateful, but even more so for the peace and satisfaction of knowing that I have a Principle by which to work out my daily problems, and that as children of God, the only lawmaker, we do not have to be subject to material laws. The financial problem is working out beautifully through the realization that no quality of Mind is poor, impoverished, or limited in any way. I am more than happy to know that all but one of the family have become interested in this great truth, and I am striving each day to express more love and gratitude for Christian Science,—Fresno, Cal.
