It was through a friend that Christian Science was brought to me as that power which can overcome sin. Step by step it has been proved effectual, and for the last ten years has been the only means of healing used in my home. A nervous disease appeared in one of the children and recurred at intervals for years. Many physicians were sought, many remedies tried, but to no avail. As a last resort Christian Science was appealed to, and it did not fail, for soon the symptoms of disease disappeared, and they have never returned. A few years later another child was stricken with disease, at first pronounced by the physician to be blood-poisoning, then scarlet fever, and finally typhoid fever. Owing to the appearance of the contagion, the physician was called in and retained for two weeks, at the end of which time, when the child was apparently at the gate of death, permission was given to call in a Christian Science practitioner. In twelve hours there was a change for the better, and the child slowly but surely was restored to perfect health.
A few years ago I suffered from nervous breakdown to such an extent that I was obliged to leave home, and for two weeks was under the care of a Christian Science practitioner in the home of a dear Scientist. At the end of that time I returned home and was able to take up my duties, though needing the loving care of a practitioner for many months. The healing was very slow, but I realize that there were many erroneous beliefs and false Laws to be overcome and broken, and I no longer wonder that the conditions did not yield sooner. I hope this testimony may reach some one who perhaps is discouraged because of hope deferred. To such a one I would say, Do not be discouraged or give up, and above all do not let pride or any other falsity prevent your seeking a practitioner whenever you need help.
I owe all that I am and all that I have to Christian Science, and the blessings I enjoy are manifold. I wish to express my thankfulness to God, and my gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, as well as to the workers throughout the field for their untiring love and tender patience with erring thought–—Wilmington, Del.
