Christian Science came into my...

From the November 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science came into my life when I was a girl of about sixteen years of age. I had suffered from a catarrhal condition for a number of years, as well as from other physical disturbances. When Christian Science was presented to me, I was at home with the mumps. At this time a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was lent to me. This was the first time I had ever heard of Christian Science or seen a copy of its textbook, as I had been raised in a Sunday school of a so-called orthodox church. While I appreciated everything I had gained there, I knew nothing of God's nearness and allness.

I grasped eagerly at the teachings of Christian Science and accepted the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School. I decided then and there that all medicine was to be discarded. One of the first things which I learned, and which impressed me, was the message from the Bible, "God is love"; also the fact that He is not a human being and that He is ever present; that we can know Him here and now. My attendance at the other church did not terminate immediately, but later the realization came to me that I could not attend both. I then had to make my choice, so I based it on the teachings and healing that I had received; and from that time Christian Science has been my only religion and help.

Through treatment from loving practitioners I have been healed of colds, diphtheria, an acute case of rheumatism, skin eruption, and pneumonia. All these conditions were quickly and permanently healed, with the exception of the skin eruption, which seemed more stubborn, but finally yielded. In one instance my thought was helpfully turned away from the arguments of "the last enemy" to resurrection and life. I was told not to look into the sepulcher for the Christ, Truth, for the Christ is ever present and available. This experience was an opportunity for me and meant spiritual growth.
