In the summer of 1929 I was taken ill with severe heart and nerve trouble which chained me to a sick bed for a long time. The physician did what he could for me, but was able to help me very little. Thus months went by without any noticeable improvement. One day grippe was added to this, and my suffering was greater than ever, so that I was completely overcome. My friends and acquaintances expected my death.
At this time of greatest need Christian Science, which up to then had been entirely unknown to me, came into my life like a ray of light. My attention was drawn to it by a dear relative. Immediately I became interested in this hitherto unknown good teaching and asked a practitioner for treatment. After the first treatment I noticed a considerable improvement. I slept peacefully and took short walks, a thing I had not been able to do. Thoughts of fear weighed on me constantly and were a great hindrance to any activity. This fear entirely disappeared after the practitioner awakened my understanding and in a loving manner made this glorious teaching clear to me. At the same time I got a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for further study. In less than two weeks my health was so much improved that I was able to take up my business again, and step by step I progressed rapidly to complete healing.
At the same time I received many other beautiful blessings. Through Christian Science financial difficulties and lack of a home were overcome in a fairly short time. My dear wife, who had been suffering for years from what was termed neurosis of the heart, was also readily healed. Since Christian Science came into our lives doctors and medicine have been completely set aside.
