This is a humble testimony of...

From the July 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This is a humble testimony of gratitude. My humility is due to the understanding of the ever-present, all-powerful God resulting from my study of Christian Science. My gratitude is based upon the daily joy and happiness which also result from the study of Christian Science.

About ten years ago, after extended illness, my wife passed on, leaving me with two young daughters of four and eight years. I had been introduced to Christian Science during the latter part of my wife's illness. We had discussed Christian Science with friends, had procured a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and had read from it at irregular periods, but we had depended upon medical aid until her passing. When this occurred, the seed of Truth which had been sown by the reading of Science and Health blossomed into the recognition that mortal man is not man, made in the image and likeness of God, as recorded in Genesis. My reading had provided the foundation upon which Mrs. Eddy's revelation of God, who is Spirit, infinite Mind, substantially good, and the Giver of all good gifts, is built.

By holding steadfastly to this newly found understanding of God, I gained a joyful sense of being guided, protected, and sustained by Him. I sincerely affirmed Spirit's oneness and man's spiritual being, and this happy beginning lifted me above any belief of sorrow, self-pity, melancholy, or remorse. Some time later I realized that the Comforter promised by Jesus, and explained by Mrs. Eddy to be Christian Science, had been conclusively demonstrated in my experience.
