THE PERPETUITY OF INDIVIDUALITY

From the July 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science teaches that true individuality reveals man because it reflects and expresses God, whereas the false sense of personality conceals the individuality it counterfeits.

The perpetuity of individual being is a necessary corollary of immortality. Man's reflection of Mind is his individuality. His oneness with God ensures the preservation of his identity or distinct individuality. He can never lose his spiritual individuality, the reflection of God, any more than he can lose God, whom he reflects. On page 280 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes: "God, the Soul of man and of all existence, being perpetual in His own individuality, harmony, and immortality, imparts and perpetuates these qualities in man,—through Mind, not matter."

Long ago, Moses heard the voice of God saying to him, "Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock." Thus are we safe upon the foundational rock of eternal being. And as we grasp this fact there comes to us the joyous certainty of the safety and perpetuity, the unchanged individuality, of all that reflects God. Confusion cannot bewilder real individuality, nor accident injure it; disease cannot attach to it, nor death terminate it.
