The simplicity of Christian Science healing...

From the April 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The simplicity of Christian Science healing is indicated by Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in Science and Health, our textbook, where she says (pp. 323, 324), "Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea." I have had opportunities to make this truth practical.

For many years my home has been high in the Sierra Nevada range in California, where for a number of years I was the only resident student of Christian Science. The Holy Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy were my constant companions. The truths in these books, when correctly applied, never failed to meet my human need.

One winter we were isolated from the outside by heavy blizzards and snows. Supplies at the one grocery store were very low, and there were no bread, crackers, or yeast. My husband came to me one noon, asking if I could feed four men who had been shoveling snow from roofs. My answer was, "Of course." And then, like the woman in the Bible whose two sons were to be sold into bondage, I took count of what was in the house. But there was no bread. As I went about the preparation of what food was at hand, I said in childlike trust, "Dear God, what shall I do for bread?" Almost immediately I heard a knock at the door, and there stood a man with a loaf and a half of home-baked bread from his wife, whom I scarcely knew.
