"THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS NIGH AT HAND"

From the August 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Today's events present a picture of world-wide turmoil and restlessness, which cannot be ignored. Tension and misunderstandings among nations, with resultant strife and dissension, suggest a disunity that reaches to the farthest corners of the earth. This sense of rivalry and mad ambition must be met and overcome through the efforts of those who have spiritual perception and moral courage with which to bring the forces of Mind into action in the field of human relationships. To this righteous end Christian Science points the way.

World conditions are not disconcerting to the individual who knows the allness and omnipotence of God. The blessed Master, Christ Jesus, foresaw periods of turmoil and gave to his disciples and followers warning and admonitions, which are applicable to the present time. He instructed his disciples how to meet and overcome the evils which confronted them. Because of the light of understanding which Christian Science throws upon them, his teachings can be even better understood by his followers of the present era.

In the discourse recorded by Luke, Jesus said: "When ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified.... Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven" (21:9-ll).
