I started to study Christian Science in 1965, after a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was given my daughter. We have had many healings since that time.
I had suffered from bursitis several times before learning of this religion, and had gone to a physician, who gave me pills or an injection for the pain. The condition returned shortly after I started to study Science, and I asked a practitioner for treatment. One of the quotations from Science and Health that helped me was (p. 391): "Banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body. No law of God hinders this result." I was healed, and I have never had bursitis again.
Once I fell on ice and broke my right shoulder, although I didn't know it was broken at the time. I asked my daughter to call a practitioner to treat me. During the days that followed, the practitioner gave me helpful guidance for my reading in the textbook. Because I was fearful at times, she suggested the following quotation (pp. 391 — 392): "Mentally contradict every complaint from the body, and rise to the true consciousness of Life as Love,—as all that is pure, and bearing the fruits of Spirit. Fear is the fountain of sickness, and you master fear and sin through divine Mind; hence it is through divine Mind that you overcome disease." The shoulder was Xrayed three months later, and I was told that it had set perfectly.
