I was brought up in Christian Science, but my mother did most of the prayerful work for me in times of trouble. When I went away from home to teach, I hadn't yet learned the importance of praying for myself. I took my Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but I didn't read them or attend church.
Shortly after my arrival I struck my toe on the leg of a bed. The physical education teacher, who was in the house at the time, declared the toe was broken and offered to take me to a doctor. I thanked him and called a Christian Science practitioner in a nearby town. She suggested I put on a bedroom slipper, if necessary, and come to the Wednesday evening Christian Science church service. She met me there and prayed for me that night. The next day I was able to put on a loafer and teach school all day. The physical education teacher was surprised at this quick healing.
That practitioner helped me get "back on the track," and my interest in Christian Science was renewed. I've been praying to understand more of God's law ever since.
