Some time ago, I had a strong reminder of God’s government in my life. My husband and I were selling our house, and we started the purchase process on the new house with quite a long lead time. This long lead time was necessary because the house was part of a development where buyers agreed to purchase the house before construction began, and could then make a myriad of changes to the interiors.
In spite of having put our current house on the market several months before the expected ready date of the new house, we hadn’t received any offers. Since we weren’t prepared financially to pay two mortgages, I realized I needed to actively pray.
It was tempting to be fearful as the closing date on the new house approached. What came to me was that I didn’t want to be like the children of Israel, who were happy to be saved from the Egyptians and the engulfing waters of the Red Sea, but seemed to forget about that wonderful proof of God’s protection when the next problem came along. In other words, I realized it’s one thing to say, “Thanks, God, that was great,” once the problem is solved. It’s another to be able to say, as Jesus did, “I knew that thou hearest me always” (John 11:42) before seeing the needed change.
