Last summer I enjoyed the beauty and challenges of two separate multi-day wilderness canoe trips. During these times, I needed to carry a canoe or equipment pack on mile-long portage trails, sometimes up and over hills and through deep mud.
My gratitude for the freedom to participate in these activities prompts me to share a healing that occurred over twenty years ago; I hope my account will encourage and bless others. It’s proof that, “When you have once conquered a diseased condition of the body through Mind, that condition never recurs, and you have won a point in Science,” as Mary Baker Eddy states in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 217).
For more years than I care to admit, I lived with recurring back pain that at times almost incapacitated me and made fulfilling my daily obligations difficult. It seemed that days or weeks of discomfort followed even semi-strenuous activity. I prayed earnestly for myself whenever the problem flared up, and also requested Christian Science treatment from different Christian Science practitioners on several occasions.
